In addition to measuring all the train sets’ weight variables, AMTAB WIM also detect damaged wheels (WDD) and detect and warn against increased derailing risks.

The latter functionality is best used at speeds over 35 km/h, as several anomalies/deficiencies are detected as dynamic forces. The two main wheel defects, wheel flats and wheel out of roundness, are both detected by the system.

AMTAB’s WDD is based on artificial neural networks (- deep learning) where the system improves its detection capabilities over the system’s whole lifespan.
